Hairstyle question...?

ok, i got a new hairstyle which was "side swept bangs n layered hair". today, i washed it (1st wash after my haircut), after it dried up, its looking ridiculous now, its all puffy hair. its not the same as that day when i got that haircut. the shape of flicks is all gone. everything is like "nest" & inflated. does this happen ?? i thought it will remain like this forever . but its all spoiled now. i m feeling really bad. i havent got any hairspray or straightener . what to do now, plz help me !!!!??? well, wheneva i go out , i tie a pony but, even the pony is inflated. will applying oil "just to the lower end" help out ? will people notice that my pony is puffed up ? i m scared . well, plz tell me how to maintain layered hair.? will i have to again go to the salon ??
